Pedrosa now thinking about 2009

In spite of being on holiday Dani Pedrosa has his mind fixed on the forthcoming season, when he will have one overriding objective, to gain “consistency and regularity”. The Repsol rider will be fighting for the world title next year having finished third this year, after a string of setbacks dotted throughout the whole year ruined his title chances.

The 2008 World Championship is over and so a season that could be called “irregular” has finished. The year has been classified as “very good at the beginning and quite bad at the end” in the Spanish rider`s own words. In the middle Pedrosa and his team decided to change tyres “to gain regularity and to start the season well”.

And so with this strategy Dani has made a lot of progress in the preparation for next year`s championship, where all riders will be using Bridgestone tyres. In spite of believing that it is “too soon” to place any bets the Spanish rider is confident that he will have a better season and beat his rivals. The experiences he had in the recently ended season have taught him a lot and he will be stronger at the start of next season which begins in Qatar in April.

Referring to his rivals in the title fight Pedrosa praised the reigning World Champion, the Italian Valentino Rossi. “He was the best. He knew how to take advantage of all the mistakes made by Stoner, or my own, and got podium finishes in all the races last season except one. He will be a tough rival to beat” he says. But Dani is not thinking of making way for him and he will be out to dethrone the Yamaha rider at the end of 2009.
