Dani Pedrosa became more popular among the Spanish public in 2008. The rider from Catalunya continues to head the list of the best-known riders once again (86%) according to figures published by the Havas Sport agency. Moreover, the statistics confirm that there has been an increase in the number of motorcycling fans in Spain over the last twelve months.
The FIM (Federation International de Motociclisme) has recently published a provisional list of the riders in both the 250cc as well as 125cc categories. In total there will be eleven Spanish riders competing in the two categories; a show of power which demonstrates just how well the rider training schemes are working in Spain.
Next season´s MotoGP grid is practically decided. The season gets under way on 12th April with a night-time race in Qatar. With only last minute changes to be added, if necessary, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso will share the paddock with another seventeen riders from nine different countries.
The General Director of Honda España, Eduardo Bigas, has confirmed today, Tuesday, in a statement made to Televisión Española that the Japanese company will continue with its project in the World MotoGP Championship. Honda will therefore carry on working with the team that is sponsored by Repsol, with Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso as its official riders.
Next year Spanish circuits will be the testing ground for the 600cc motorbikes that will be ridden in the new category that will be introduced in the World MotoGP Championship in 2011. The bikes will make their deut and compete in the CEV (España de Velocidad – Spanish Speed Championship) where their performance will be checked and allow any problems identified to be corrected.
